It was my papa’s birthday and we have a bit of a celebration at the weekend. Neither sally or i have had chance present itself for baking of any sort lately, what with going back to university etc. Well this was my chance to get back into it! Instead of a cake i went for the challenge of a chocolate torte. Made the pastry from scratch which was REALLY hard! never under estimate those bakers that make their own everytime! but in the end it actually paid off! (shock to the horror). It went down a treat with no pieces left by the end of the evening. happy birthday for papa, happy tummy for all!
Sally and Luke are back in Norwich now for university learning (mario kart perfecting) so i decided to bake them a ‘see ya later!’ cake on their last evening in wakefield. I’ve been wanting to make a chocolate cake for a while now and so i did. It burnt a little and seemed to set quite hard and i was crap at melting chocolate again but eating the bits in the middle weren’t so bad. other pub goers said it was quite nice…what do pub goers know?

how to not use icing.
yesterday sally, david logic king hamil and I set out on a challenge. We’ve been wanting to try our hand at a decroative cake for a while and we decided to make Link from Zelda.

This is sally shaping Link’s boots.

This is sally presenting link.

all done.
It was more like building a cake than baking one and we learnt a lot. i think this is quite good to say it’s the first time we’ve used icing and it’s only our 4th? cake.
gale and alan have been together for 29 whole years so i made them a cake even though my dad does’nt have a sweet tooth and galey is on a diet. but its the thought that counts and i can eat it on there behalf which is also very careing(?)

This is another baking venture that happened on a whim but this time a tasty whim. hmm, not sure i like ‘tasty whim’ . Anyway i feel these cupcakes turned out good! Cycled to my local shop but they had no chocolate chips (losers) so i got milk chocolate and viola!

three little babes. (dont worry no coke or cocaine went into this cake mix.)

i wanted to make a peanut butter cake like the one abi posted but it was hard because im in england and not america and it isnt as good for getting sweet sweet sweets :’( but in the end i did make a peanut butter cake and it tasted quite nice and really sweet too. i used american cups for measuring and it needed 1 and a half cups of peanut butter for the mixture , it was a whole jar really :)! … it also told me in this recipe to add cream cheese and peanut butter together for a “delightful” topping.this was a lie because it tasted undelightful and was a waste of cheese, i just put melted chocolate on wi buttons instead.boom.
**Thanks to one mr.david hamill for helping me!
I woke up today with thoughts of Belle & Sebastian and chocolate chips. This is what those thoughts led to - a cake making session with a good soundtrack but not a brilliant result. It tastes better than it looks. im a little unhappy with that it’s a slightly burnt on the outside. i say this chocolate chip loaf is a nice little number to enjoy with a cup of tea. not coffee though because…well it’s gross.
